Akwa Ibom Cabinet Reshuffle: 3 Commissioners, Special Adviser Dismissed

Akwa Ibom Governor Godswill Akpabio has dropped three commissioners and a special adviser in a minor cabinet reshuffle. Mr. Aniekan Umanah, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, revealed the appropriate statement in Uyo on October 7, 2013, Monday. The minor cabinet reshuffle was with immediate effect and affected Commissioners for Transport, Mr. Austin Mbeh, Economic Development, Mr. Sunny Anyang and Commerce and Industry, Mr. Martins Udoinyang. Mr. Samuel Frank, the Special Adviser, Sports and Youth Development, , was also dropped from the cabinet, according to the statement. The statement said that the governor expressed appreciation to the former members of the state Executive Council for their services to the state. “The governor also wished them success in their future endeavours,” the statement added. Aba Police Smash Gang of Kidnappers, Free a Businessman

The Police Area Commander in Aba, Abia, ACP Rabiu Dayi, said that the police rescued a kidnapped businessman in the town. ACP Dayi informed about it while speaking to newsmen in Aba on October 7, 2013, Monday. He confirmed that the police smashed a gang of kidnappers terrorising Aba. “We called you up this morning to show you another achievement we have recorded in crime fighting in Aba. “Two kidnappers were gunned down by my men last week. “Yesterday (Sunday) at about 10.a.m, a young businessman, whose name I will not mention for security reasons, went to No. 36 Omenazu Street, off Faulks Road, Aba to cut his hair. “Four armed young men in a white-colour Toyota Hilux van followed him into the salon and kidnapped him at gun point. “When I got the information around 1.00 p.m., we started searching for information. “We were reliably informed that the man was taken to Nwakanma’s compound at Amavo, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area, along Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway,

No More Smoking - Jack Wilshere

Jack Wilshere says there will be no repeat of the "mistake" which saw him pictured smoking outside a nightclub last week. The Arsenal midfielder was out celebrating his side's Champions league victory over Napoli when a photographer caught him with a cigarette in his mouth. Wilshere was spoken to by Arsene Wenger but returned to the team at West Brom, where his second-half equaliser earned a 1-1 draw and sent Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League. And speaking to the club website, he said:  "Players make mistakes. "I am not a smoker. I spoke with the boss and he asked me what happened, I explained to him and we sorted it out. "He put me in the team and hopefully I repaid him. I am not a smoker so I think that will be my last (cigarette)." Arsene Wenger Extending Arsenal Contract

Arsene Wenger is close to signing a two-year contract extension with Arsenal. Wenger has been in talks with the club about a contract renewal for months and report says a deal could be signed imminently. The Frenchman, whose current £7.5 million-a-year agreement would expire next summer, is expected to pen an extension that runs until 2016. The new contract would extend the reign of Arsenal’s longest-serving manager to a remarkable 20 years if it is honoured, by which time he will be 66. The Gunners hierarchy and Wenger have nearly reached agreement on the terms of the deal, which will be supplemented by bonuses but is not expected to include a basic salary increase. Wenger wants to stay for personal as well as professional reasons. His family are settled in London, with his teenage daughter hoping to complete her secondary education in the capital, while he has complete autonomy over signings and the technical direction of the club.
