Organized by the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA), it was the very first of its kind and, with Nigeria’s premium lager beer, Star, stepping in as a major sponsor of the programme, much was expected from the concert which was held on 31st December 2012, the eve of the New Year.       Demba Ba has completed his transfer to Chelsea for an undisclosed fee on a three-and-half-year contract, the club's website (www.chelseaafc.com) said on Friday. The former Newcastle striker, who is the joint third highest Premier League goal scorer this season, will be eligible for Chelsea's FA Cup tie at Southampton on Saturday the club said. "It feels good to be here, I'm very happy and very proud," the 27-year-old Senegalese forward said. "When the club who won the Champions League wants you, the decision is very easy. This club is massive and that's something that helped the decision a lot. It was not a hard one." With speculation increasing that the 34-year-old will not be offered a new contract at Stamford Bridge, the Blues captain has called for the club to honour his team-mate. Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney will miss their sides Premier League clash with Liverpool as well as Saturday's FA Cup tie against West Ham United. Rooney sustained a minor knee injury during training on Christmas Day, and was initially believed to be sidelined for a fortnight. A 28-year-old photography student from Nigeria allegedly committed suicide after jumping off the second floor of his rented accommodation in Sector 41. Police said preliminary probe suggests that the deceased, Kelvin Lakoju, was in depression. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Embassy and the deceased's family have been informed about the incident. Kelvin had been living in Noida since 2009 and was pursuing a photography course from an institute in Film City. Cops said he jumped off around 11pm on Wednesday, January 2nd. "We have questioned some people and came to know that he was upset for some reasons," said deputy SP, S Chinappa. "His friends said Kelvin was good at studies. Some personal problem could be the reason for committing suicide," said a senior police officer. An FIR has been lodged with Sector 39 police station.

Chelsea interim manager Rafa Benitez admits he has "no idea" when captain John Terry will return to fitness. Terry has been out of action ever since sustaining a knee injury in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on November 11. Dana Airlines will today conduct its inaugural flight to Abuja, six months after one of its aircraft got involved in a crash that killed all 153 passengers and crew on board and others on ground at Iju Ishaga, Lagos, on June 3, 2012. Coming barely two weeks after the House of Representatives called for revocation of the airline’s operating licence, the flight, expected to take off in Lagos at 9:45 a.m, would have on board some VIPs, journalists, stakeholders in the aviation sector and celebrities, including Nollywood stars. The airline’s spokesman, Tony Usidamen, who confirmed this, yesterday, said all arrangements had been concluded for a seamless flight. The convoy of Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Lawal Jimoh, was on Monday involved in a ghastly motor accident, killing a police escort instantly. Just last week, the state governor, Idris Wada, had an auto crash which claimed the life of his Aide- de- Camp, Idris Mohammed. The Speaker was said to be travelling to his Okene home town when a heavy duty truck ran into his escort van at Osara along Okene road. While the Speaker’s vehicle along with others were not affected by the accident, a police corporal Lamidi Akeem, who was in the affected escort car died on Thursday at the hospital. The Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Austin Akubo, confirmed the report and said the Speaker’s vehicle was not affected.
