Subsidy Scam: Futile Bid to Save Farouk and Emenalo From Detention

Image
"The accused persons are hereby remanded in prison custody," Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi's voice re-echoed in their brains like some discordant tunes from a horror movie. It was like a jolt from the blues! They couldn't believe it. Suddenly, the haughty smirk that was hitherto on the face of the erstwhile Chairman and Secretary of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on fuel subsidy probe, Farouk Lawan and Boniface Emenalo. vanished. Clad in a well-starched white flowing Agbada and matching cap, both Farouk and his co-accused person, had exuded so much confidence while in the dock. Never did they envisage themselves spending a whooping one week at Kuje Prison. Specifically, the duo will remain in Prison till February 8 when their bail application will be determined by the trial court. It was indeed a smooth transition from 'parliamentary chambers' to 'prison chambers' for Farouk. Their trial which came after so many months of su

In a rare show of great sportsmanship, Didier Drogba was in the Super Eagles’ dressing room after they lost 2-1 to the Nigerians, to wish them the best . Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Idah Peterside, who was once a Media Officer to the team, but now runs a church in South Africa, tweeted a picture of the Ivorian captain with former Chelsea team mate, Mikel Obi and the Super Eagles. He uploaded the picture with the words: “Drogba Was in the dressing room with the players, Drogba walk in and told the players win the cup for us.” “I was very impressed with the Super Eagles’ performance against us (Ivory Coast). It’s proof of hard work, relentlessness and the sign of a world-class team in preparation,” he said, after the game that shattered the Afcon dream of the highly-rated Ivorian side. “I don’t really see any team that can withstand Nigeria for the rest of the tournament. They keep improving by each game and level of the competition. That shows it’s a hardworking and re

Ailing Muhammad Ali Could Be Dead In 'Days' - Brother

Image
Ailing former world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali could be dead within days, according to his brother Rahman Ali. Rahman Ali told the Daily Mail in an article published Sunday that his brother, considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, can no longer recognize him or even speak. He said he does not believe the 71-year-old will make it to the summer. “He's in a bad way. He's very sick,” Rahman Ali said. “It could be months, it could be days.” Muhammad Ali, frequently called “The Greatest,” was diagnosed with Parkinson’s syndrome in 1984. Although Muhammad Ali appeared comparatively strong as he lit the flame at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, he seemed in relatively bad shape at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Ali’s most recent health scare came in 2011 when he lapsed into unconsciousness at his 6,000-square-foot home in Arizona. He was hospitalized and treated for dehydration. Rahman Ali also told the Daily Mail that his brother plans to place a respo
