Image
The Nigerian Governors Forum has rejected any planned declaration of a state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and other troubled states. The governors stated this in a statement by their Chairman, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, on Monday. They advised the federal government to reject any advice to make such a declaration in the troubled states. “These requests are being made by people who do not wish our country well and who are bent on plunging the country into a deeper crisis,” the governors said. God forbid!’ Those were the exact words of the actress whose identity I will simply leave as anonymous. What does this imply you may ask? Well, I guess you should patiently read this piece to get yourself well informed on the latest sexual pervert that has dominated the world’s third largest film producing platform called Nollywood.  As you read, open your discerning so as to get the gist properly, some revelations you derive here, you may not have ever heard bef

Boko Haram Releases Hostage Video, Take Hostage Nigerian Women And Children

Nigeria's militant Islamist group Boko Haram has abducted women and children in response to the arrest of its members' wives and children, it says. Abubakar Shekau did not identify the people he said had been abducted Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau released a video, showing women and children purportedly being held. If confirmed, these would be the first Nigerians taken hostage by Boko Haram. In the video, Mr Shekau also said the group was behind two recent attacks in the north-east, which left an estimated 240 people dead. The group has rejected an amnesty offered by the government to end the insurgency that has killed at least some 2,000 people in the past three years. Infants detained Boko Haram has repeatedly accused the security forces of illegally detaining the relatives of its members, saying their release was a pre-condition for any truce. In the video, Mr Shekau did not name the women and children whom he said the group had seized, or say how m

Amaechi, Oshiomhole Shun Governors' Meeting

Image
Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and his Edo State counterpart, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on Sunday shunned the South-South/South-East Governors’ meeting held in Asaba, the Delta State capital. During the summit the governors drummed up support for President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term ambition. Although Amaechi, the Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, was represented by his deputy, Tele Ikuru, Oshiomhole did not send any representative to the meeting. The absence of the Rivers State governor at the meeting further confirmed speculation that he was no longer in the good books of President Jonathan, thus deepening the political rivalry between the two political giants in the South-South region. Oshiomhole’s absence from the meeting might not be unconnected with his romance with All Progressives Congress (APC), while his counterpart in the fledging party and Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha who showed up close to the end of the meeting, joined in the pos

Higuan Set For Arsenal Switch

Image
Sources in Spain have reported that Arsenal are on the verge of completing the £18.6 million pound signing of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentinian International has scored 107 goals in 188 appearances for Real since signing from River Plate in 2007, has also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur though the Gunners appear to have the edge. Arsenal will also have the edge in the race for Champions League football, should they beat Wigan Athletic at the Emirates tomorrow evening. Spurs win at Stoke City yesterday took them above Arsene Wenger’s men into fourth place, so the Gunners must win against the FA Cup winners to keep their destiny their own hands. Meanwhile, the Metro have reported that Bayern Munich could make an ‘audacious bid’ for midfielder Jack Wilshere. Pep Guardiola is said to be a big fan of the 21 year old, who has started twenty league games this season having struggled with injury over the previous two seasons. Elsewhere, the club are also

Nasarawa Killings: My Hands Are Clean, Says Labaran Maku

The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, on Sunday dismissed a media report associating him with the recent wave of violence in Nasarawa State. The minister made the denial via a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Joseph Mutah, in Abuja. The statement described the media report as false, unfounded and calculated to dent the image and integrity of the minister. “The newspaper claimed that the violence stemmed from alleged rivalry between the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, and Gov. Umaru Tanko Al-Makura over the 2015 governorship election. “It is shocking that this story was published without recourse to the available facts about the unfortunate violence, which are in the public domain in Nasarawa State and which have also been reported widely in the media. “The story is, therefore, completely false, unfounded and a calculated attempt to associate the good name of the honourable minister with the ugly violence in Nasarawa State,” it said. The statement said
