REVEALED: How Plans To Fly Governor Chime Back Failed Because Of Bad Health

Image
Attempts to fly ailing Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State back to the country in December from India to celebrate Christmas and New Year with his family proved abortive following the deterioration of his health during the trip, a competent source told Leadership yesterday. The entire Government House, Enugu, and Chime’s personal residence in Udi, his country home, were lavishly decorated with Christmas trees and lightings a week before Christmas as part of preparations to receive the governor, who ostensibly left the country in September 2012 to spend his accumulated leave abroad. According to the source, the governor who is suspected to be suffering from terminal disease had a relapse when he arrived in London from India, forcing his aides and relatives who accompanied him on the trip to take him back to his hospital bed in India. The source said that the decision to bring him back to the country to celebrate Christmas and New Year was based on the need to douse the tens

Image
According to the predictions of the founder of the Evangelical Church of YAWEH, Lagos, Primate Theophilus Olabayo, the much anticipated general elections of 2015 may not hold. Olabayo, who spoke with Sunday Tribune in an exclusive interview, had many heart-rending predictions for people of the country. The cleric says two governors would not see the end of 2013, declaring that “this year, we have to pray so that we may not lose two governors because what happened last year was a shadow of what is going to happen this year.” Olabayo added that the president and governors should forget about re-election in the next general election. Answering a question on the anticipated commencement of preparations for the 2015 elections this year, Olabayo said; “please, let us forget about the 2015 elections for now. Are you sure the people talking about that all-important year would live up to that time? What I foresee about 2015 is trouble and anarchy in the land and the political gladia

Nollywood actress Bisi komolafe lost the battle to illness and gave up the ghost over a week ago. However her fiance Tunde Ijaduola has been embroiled in lots of controversy and accusations. He bared his mind in an interview excerpts below: On Bisi’s Jeep and Property I didnt take Bisi’s property. I don’t think it is a proper thing for family members to be fighting me for Bisi’s property less than 24 hours after Bisi’s death when we should be mourning her. Bisi died at age 27 and it is sad. I am sending the Honda Pilot (vehicle) back to them, sadly enough Bisi’s parents do not have issues with me but her extended family members. Please note I have given them time and place to pick the car.   On the Accusation that he went back to pack Bisi’s belongings while she was ill I came back to Nigeria on October 24th 2012. Bill Prohibiting Gay Marriage Already In Place; Offenders Risk 14 Years In Prison – Senate President

President of the Senate David Mark has advised proponents of same s*x marriage to give up as such acts would not be allowed to infiltrate the Nigerian culture. According to him, the bill prohibiting the act was already in place, declaring that people found to have violated the law risked 14 years imprisonment. In a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Paul Mumeh at the weekend, Senator Mark told Catholic faithful and guests at the civic reception in honour of Cardinal John Onaiyean in Abuja that it was a criminal offence for anyone to indulge in such an act. He assured that in spite of pressures from some sections of the international community, including human rights activists, demanding the legalisation of same s*x marriage in Nigeria, the law against its practice was irrevocable. “We will not compromise on this. I want to invite you all to join the crusade of decency in our society. There are many good values we can copy from other societies, but certainly not

PDP Crisis: Govs To Meet Jonathan Tomorrow

Image
Trouble between the governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the National Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has taken another dimension with the state executives insisting on the sack of Tukur-led National Working Committee, NWC and a caretaker committee inaugurated. Vanguard gathered, yesterday, that the governors who are already in the nation’s capital, Abuja, will meet with the leader of the party, President Goodluck Jonathan, tomorrow, where they will formally express their grievances to him and call for a caretaker committee that would replace the present NWC when finally dissolved. The PDP governors who were instrumental to the emergence of members of the NWC will report them to President Jonathan over alleged unsavoury attitude towards them by Tukur in particular. According to a source, the governors who had wanted to push the case at the National Executive Committee, NEC, if the meeting was held before the Board of Trustees,

Bayelsa Govt Shocker: Sylva Left Only N4,451 In State Purse

Image
Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, yesterday, said he inherited  N4,451 from his predecessor, Timipre Sylva, in February 2012 and gave a graphic account of how his administration grew the paltry sum to over N16 billion. The Governor, who spoke before proceeding on a two-week break, said the N50 billion Bond his embattled predecessor secured was also posing a challenge to his administration, lamenting that the figure would hit N104 billion in 2017. Dickson made this disclosure while presenting his administration’s financial scorecard for December 2012, yesterday in Abuja. He said his state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) would hit the N2 billion monthly mark by the end of the year, up from about N300 million when he assumed office. Dickson, who was represented by his Commissioner for Finance, Duate Iyabi, said 2013 has been dedicated to consolidating the achievements of the preceding year. I didn’t handover to Dickson – Sylva Countering Dickson’s claim yesterday,

Jonathan Was Aware Of Obasanjo’s Kaduna Visit –Investigation

President Goodluck Jonathan was privy to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s visit to Kaduna State, investigation has revealed. The visit has reportedly caused a rift between Jonathan and Vice-President Namadi Sambo. However, Sambo has since denied the allegation. Some sections of the media reported on Sunday that Sambo used the opportunity of Obasanjo’s visit to Kaduna (his state) to condole with the state over Governor Patrick Yakowa’s death to mobilise traditional rulers against Jonathan’s alleged second time bid. Yakowa died alongside former National Security Adviser Andrew Azazi in the December 15 helicopter crash in Bayelsa State. But a top Presidency source told our correspondent on Monday that contrary to that report, the President had a foreknowledge of Obasanjo’s visit. The source claimed that Obasanjo travelled to and fro the state aboard a presidential jet. He said, “Whoever is saying that the President was not aware of Obasanjo’s visit to the state is only lyi

Ali, Anenih, Ekwueme, Nnamani, Eight Others Battle For PDP BoT Chairmanship Slot

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who has been monitoring development concerning the election, gathered that the candidates include Alex Ekwueme, Ken Nnamani, Okwesilieze Nwodo. Others are Amadu Ali, Tony Anenih, Emmanuel Iwuayanwu, Don Etibet and Sen. Bode Olayinka. Also in the race are Yekeen Adeojo, Sen. Onyeabor Obi, Harry Akande and Shuaibu Oyedo. The Secretary of BOT, Walid Jibrin, said that 20 candidates had earlier signified interest for BOT chairmanship. NAN gathered that the eight candidates might have been dropped out because they were not members of the party`s BOT. Part 9, Section 32, Subsection 1 of the PDP Constitution specifically states that the Board of Trustees shall elect its Chairman and Secretary from its members. It also states that when elected, they will serve a single term of five years. Jubrin said that since the procedure of the election of the BoT chairman was not specified in the party’s constitution. He said that the BoT would i
