In the latest case, the infant was found in the sewage pipe in a residential building in Jinhua in the wealthy coastal province of Zhejiang on Saturday afternoon. The harrowing discovery came after residents reported the sound of a baby crying, state television said late on Monday. The pipe was just four inches wide in diameter, the China Daily newspaper said. Image
An amateur footage of the May 24 Nigeria Governors’ Forum election during which Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, was re-elected chairman after he defeated his only challenger, Jonah Jang of Plateau State 19 votes to 16. It had been reported that a recording of the voting was done by a governor in the camp of Mr. Amaechi. With his mobile phone, Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun captured most of the proceedings of an election that featured intense maneuvering from governors on a clear divide, either in support or against President Goodluck Jonathan’ candidate, Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau state. The president has repeatedly denied having interest in who becomes the next chairman of the group, but that claim has been disproved by insiders and governors, and even the president’s body language. The footage documents how the 35 governors voted, the counting of votes and the declaration of result by presiding officer, Asishana Okauru, who is also the director general of

Bauchi Assembly Considers Bill On Compulsory HIV Test Before Marriage

The Bauchi State House of Assembly is working on a Bill that will make it mandatory for intending couples to undergo HIV screening. The sponsor of the Bill, Ilyasu Zwall, representing Lere/Bula Constituency, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Bauchi, that the bill had already gone through First and Second reading. He said that the bill, when passed, would require intending couples to be tested for HIV in any government recognised hospital “at a time not earlier than one week to the day of the wedding”. It also made it mandatory for individuals to conduct tests when marrying additional wives. According to the lawmaker, the enactment of the law is long over-due considering the number of lives being lost as a result of marriages contracted without checking the HIV status of couples.
