Edo Election: Tribunal Dismisses Petition Against Oshiomole

Image
The Edo State Election Tribunal has dismissed the petition filed by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Charles Arhiavbere, challenging the results of the 2012 governorship election in the state. The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared the candidate of Action Congress of Nigeria and incumbent Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, as winner of the election. The Judge further said there was no infraction proved to prevent the return of Oshiomhole in anyway and that if there was a petition completely starved of evidence, this is completely one. The petition is bereft and devoid of any substance, said the Judge. Gen. Charles Arhiavbere had filed a petition at the Election Petitions Tribunal challenging the victory of Governor Adams Oshiomole in the July 14 Edo Governorship election. Sneijder Seals Move To Galatasaray

Image
Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder signed a 3-1/2 year contract with Istanbul club Galatasaray on Tuesday after leaving Inter Milan and rejecting moves to higher-profile leagues. “I had many offers but Galatasaray was the number one,” Sneijder told a news conference a day after hundreds of Galatasaray fans gave him a rapturous welcome on his arrival in Istanbul. Reports said teams including Premier League Liverpool were also interested in the 28-year-old, who inspired Inter Milan to a Champions League, Serie A and Italian Cup treble in 2010 before helping the Netherlands finish World Cup runners-up. “That was the best season so far in my life. The period after was a hard period,” he said. Sneijder struggled to maintain that success and was caught up in a contract dispute at Inter this season after failing to renegotiate his deal as the club sought to cut costs and being banished from the team. The signing of Sneijder is a major coup for the Turkish league, which is more used

Young Nigerian Virgin Stripped Naked: Shame on Nigerian Masses

Image
A poor little girl (fascinated with western technology) got caught and stripped naked for stealing an outdated black berry by a cross section of Nigerian Masses. She was tortured, violated, fingered, molested and raped. The same girl would not have stolen the blackberry if her money stolen by the Nigerian elite was properly accounted to her. Yet, nobody dare do same to Patience Jonathan (wife of current Nigerian President) when she was caught at the airport trying to freight away over $15 million U.S dollars and other hard currencies. Saint Nuhu Ribadu who handled the case as EFCC boss now claims such event never happened. The same Ribadu also claimed that Bola Tinubu is now innocent. An the question is: why kill a harmless bird when these big thieves walk? After all, the big idiot that recovered the stolen phone should have forgiven the poor little chap knowing that more was stolen from him and her by the Nigerian elite. Rather than hold these thieves accountable by Niger

Lagos Shuts Down Mile 12, Ketu Markets Over Sanitation Offence

In its strides to keep a healthy and sustainable environment in the state, the Lagos State government has shut down Mile 12 and Ketu fruit markets for not keeping to the state sanitation law. Commissioner for the Environment, Tunji Bello, noted that both markets were closed for their flagrant abuse of the state environmental sanitation law and indiscriminate loading and off-loading of goods on the main road, thereby creating traffic bottlenecks for other road users. According to him, there were inadequate toilets in the markets, while traders in the markets pollute the surrounding environment with human wastes. He pointed out that the closure of the markets became inevitable after several unheeded warnings to forestall epidemics and other health hazards in the state. Tunji Bello reiterated the fact the Government’s policy of not allowing traders reside in the market was still in force, adding that markets were meant for business activities and not for residential purposes and that conv

Why We Defecate In Open Spaces

A young man dashes out of a beer parlour with clenched teeth, pulls open his zippers and urinates carelessly by the walls of the building. A market woman pressed by a full bladder trots to a corner of the market and empties her bladder just by the side of food stalls. A school child rushes out of the classroom, takes a quick look to his right and left, retires to a small bush by the school building, and drops off lumps of smelly faeces. During Sunday service, members of the congregation, men and women, children and adults, line up by the side of the church building to release the contents of their bowels or bladder. We love to defecate in open spaces. These unhealthy practices are common in our society. When nature calls, everyone responds differently. We seem to have a fascination for defecating in public places and in bushes. Why do many Nigerians prefer to ease themselves in open spaces even when there are toilets in their homes or workplaces or in public areas? When people ur

Abramovich Is Pleased With Me: Benitez

Image
Benitez took over from Roberto Di Matteo following the Blues' exit from the Champions League, and has since endured a testing time from the club's supporters. Abramovich, though, expressed his satisfaction with Benitez's tenure thus far, and said as much to the manager after Chelsea defeated rivals Arsenal on Sunday. "We have people that talk with him and I have the information," Benitez said. "The other day I had time with him and he was really pleased. He was really pleased with the game. "He has ideas. I have ideas. We share ideas. We explained to each other what we're trying to do. It's fine." Chelsea were in contention for seven trophies at the start of the season and now it is three, including the Capital One Cup, where Benitez's side must overturn a 2-0 deficit at Swansea in the semi-final second leg on Wednesday. "In a transitional period - we have new players and some of them are at the end of their contracts

Stephens Stuns Serena

Image
Stephens, playing in only her seventh grand slam event, took full advantage as Williams injured her back and then lost her temper. Stephens, the No 29 seed, showed no nerves facing her idol as she recovered from dropping the first set to win 3-6 7-5 6-4. Williams, a winner in Melbourne in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010, needed a medical time out during the second set - while she was warned in the decider after smashing her racquet. The frustration appeared to come from the fact that Williams had seemingly been on course for a straightforward win over her fellow American after taking the first set fairly comfortably. Stephens had other ideas, though, as she broke in the eighth game of the second set to move 5-3 up. However she blotted her copybook by wasting a set-point chance, with Williams breaking back. Williams, though, hurt herself in the process - and Stephens took advantage as she broke again to finally level the match. Stephens again had to show her fighting qua

Why Jonathan Should Dialogue With Boko Haram – Reps

Image
Members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday urged President Goodluck Jonathan to consider dialogue with the dreaded Islamist sect- Boko Haram and other outlawed groups causing violence in the country as the best option. The resolution followed the adoption of a motion titled “Urgent need for the Federal Government to open avenues for dialogue as a means of addressing security challenges in the country,” which was moved by Muhammed Bashir Galadanchi. Galadanchi, while moving the motion, expressed concern that the present approach of the government of “military action, random arrests and imprisonments obviously had limited effectiveness and escalated trends of insecurity, indicating that they are only short-term solutions”. He added that, “if this approach is not reversed and more long-term solutions deployed, these incessant incidents will pose serious threats to our security, democracy, rights and freedom of our innocent citizens and ultimately destabilise the nation’s
