OPINION: Obafemi Awolowo, Hero of Yoruba, Killer of Biafra Betrayed by the North

Image
Obafemi Awolowo  is the undisputed hero of the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria whose wartime policy of starvation and currency change helped kill the Biafran dream. The post-colonial era of Nigerian history was dominated by three actors, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello. Dr Azikiwe was an avowed nationalist who preferred one Nigeria above anything else. Sir Ahmadu Bello was a tribalist who initially preferred a balkanized Nigeria to enable his people live their religious and cultural life without external negative inluence and was later reluctantly convinced to seek an agenda for a united Nigeria. Chief Obafemi Awolowo from the onset did not hide his preference for an Oduduwa Republic. Chief Awolowo is idolized by the Yorubas because  he was able to transform the South West into an educational and industrial hub in Africa and build a robust political climate . He so much understood the value of education that he made it free, affordable and offered a lot of schola

Coalition partners in the All Progressives Congress, APC, took a bold step towards registration as a new party early Wednesday in Abuja when nine of the 11 governors in the group finally adopted a logo, a slogan, and a motto for the proposed party. The adopted logo is the green-white-blue background with a broom on the white background. The logo however has a red base. The group also adopted “Justice, Peace and Unity” as its motto, and settled for “Change” as its slogan. “Our choice of the slogan “change” is based on the believe that it will resonate widely and help galvanise citizens currently dissatisfied with the lack of progress in all facets of our nation’s life under [president] Jonathan’s dispensation” said a reliable insider to the various meetings who sought to retain his anonymity. “we are close to registration you can see” he added. The governors arrived at their choice after meeting with the technical committees set up to fashion out identity symbols for the g
