Nelson Mandela: South Africa welcomes 'progress'

Mr Mandela has been in intensive care since he was taken to hospital on Saturday for the third time this year.

South Africa's government is pleased that ex-President Nelson Mandela is responding well to treatment in hospital, it said in a statement.
The cabinet wished a speedy recovery to Mr Mandela, widely regarded as the father of the nation.
The 94 year old is spending his sixth day in a Pretoria hospital suffering from a recurrent lung infection.
On Wednesday, President Jacob Zuma said he was happy with Mr Mandela's progress after a "difficult few days".
Mr Mandela's grandson and family heir, Mandla, said the family had "been deeply touched" by the concern shown for Mr Mandela's health.

Nigerians Are Good People Indeed

The dispatch with which ordinary Nigerians rescued the motorist whose vehicle plunged into the Lagos lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge on Saturday, January 26, 2013 proved once more that Nigerians are great people. Unlike most stories from Nigeria that usually end on a sad and demoralising note, this story ended on a happy note like a Nollywood film. It was nothing short of a miracle. The sole occupant of that vehicle was brought out of the lagoon alive. But he was not rescued by the Nigerian Navy or the Nigeria Police Force; neither was he rescued by the National Emergency Management Agency or Lagos State Emergency Management Agency or any agency of Lagos State. Police Arrest Redeemers University Student Over Death Of Suspected Gay Banker

Homicide detectives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department, Panti, Yaba, have arrested an undergraduate of the Redeemers University, Ogun State, in connection with the brutal murder of a suspected gay banker, Adindu Ohamara. According to sources, the banker was on April 9, found in a pool of his blood in his room, having been stabbed severally by the suspect. Six persons were thereafter arrested in connection with the crime by detectives from the Homicide Unit of the State Criminal Investigations Department ,SCID,in Panti, Lagos State. Some of the persons picked-up by the Police included, a sister of the deceased, Flora who regained her freedom on Wednesday.
