Breaking News: Ex-Gov Of Borno State Mustapha Amin Dies


Elder statesmen and former governor of Borno State, Group Capt. Mustapha Amin (rtd.) is dead.

    Amin, first Borno governor dies
He died on Wednesday morning in Kaduna State. LEADERSHIP gathered that funeral prayers for the late Amin will hold this afternoon at Sultan Bello Mosque, Kaduna.
The late Amin was the first governor of Borno State; he served from March 1976 to July 1978 during the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo.
This was after North-Eastern State was divided into Bauchi, Borno, and Gongola states. Before his appointment as governor by the supreme military council, Amin was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Airforce when appointed.
He is remembered for his attempt to stop desert encroachment, by imposing restriction on tree cutting permits.
He also made it an offense to set fires to clear the land and called for the establishment of an inland port to serve Lake Chad.
