Jonathan Asks Senate To Confirm Fola Akinkuotu As New DG, NCAA

Barely two days after he unceremoniously disengaged Dr. Harold Demuren as Director General of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, President Goodluck Jonathan has sent a letter to the Senate requesting it to confirm his nomination of Captain Fola C. Akinkuotu as new head of the agency.

The President also sent a “Bill for an Act to establish the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment, etc) Bill, 2013” to the Senate for consideration.
The development came just as the Senate confirmed the nomination of Alhaji Suleiman Barau for re-appointment as deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, as had been requested by the President.
But it appeared the President had long appointed Demuren’s replacement before his action, as the letter to the Senate President was dated March 8, 2013.
In the letter, President Jonathan requested the upper legislative chamber to confirm appointment of Fola Akinkuotu, saying his action followed the sack of Dr. Harold Demuren, in line with the provisions of Sections 8 (3) (a)  and (c) of the Civil Aviation Act of 2006.
Jonathan pleaded with the Senate to give his requests expeditious consideration, in its “usual manner”.
Jonathan, through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, had announced the sack  of Harold Damuren from office as Director General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority,  with effect from March 12, 2013.
