Chime Properly Handed Over To Me - Onyebuchi

Contrary to insinuations in some quarters that Governor Sullivan Chime did not properly hand over power to his Deputy, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, before travelling out in September last year, the latter said the governor actually handed over to him. Chime has been away since September last year with the government insisting that he was enjoying his five years accumulated leave.
But a group acting under the aegis of Save Enugu Group suddenly sprang up to claim that the governor was sick, asking the deputy governor to speak up on the health condition of Chime.
Thus, Onyebuchi, who has been the acting governor of Enugu State since September 19 last year, yesterday in a town hall meeting, organised by the Good Governance Tour headed by the Minister for Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, said that Chime actually handed over to him through the letter he transmitted to the state House of Assembly.
He disclosed that the governor had in the letter he transmitted to the state House of Assembly urged the lawmakers to give him the needed support and co-operation in the period he would be away. The acting governor said since that period he had been occupied with how to ensure that the government of the state continued to work as attested to by the Good Governance team who came on tour of the state.
Responding to a question that Chime did not hand over to him and had limited him to a maximum monetary approval of N500,000, Onyebuchi retorted: “If I was given a limit to approve only N500,000, how will our workers get their salaries? How will the contractors who are still working be paid? Enugu State has no problem with governance.”
He said that those who spoke before him, including officials of the Good Governance team had attested that Enugu was still working. Speaking earlier, the minister for information had pointed out that Enugu was no longer what it used to be before 1999.
“In the last two days we have seen Enugu metropolis that has roads that have not been there,” Maku said, adding that it was only when the capital city was developed that other areas of a state would follow suit. The minister, therefore, congratulated the Chime administration for the huge transformation made in the state in the last five years.

Police Arrest Redeemers University Student Over Death Of Suspected Gay Banker

Homicide detectives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department, Panti, Yaba, have arrested an undergraduate of the Redeemers University, Ogun State, in connection with the brutal murder of a suspected gay banker, Adindu Ohamara. According to sources, the banker was on April 9, found in a pool of his blood in his room, having been stabbed severally by the suspect.
