Time magazine has named U.S. President Barack Obama its "Person of the Year."
 
The magazine says president Obama's historic re-election was symbolic of the country's changing demographics. It also called him the "symbol and in some ways the architect of this new America."
 
This is the president's second time receiving the accolade; Obama, a Democrat and the first African-American U.S. president, was selected for the honor in 2008, after winning his first presidential election.
 
Time awarded a runner-up spot to Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai. The teenager was shot in the head by Taliban militants earlier this year for standing up for girls' education. She survived the October attack.
 
Other finalists included Apple CEO Tim Cook, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and Italian scientist Fabiola Giannati.

Nigerians Are Good People Indeed

The dispatch with which ordinary Nigerians rescued the motorist whose vehicle plunged into the Lagos lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge on Saturday, January 26, 2013 proved once more that Nigerians are great people. Unlike most stories from Nigeria that usually end on a sad and demoralising note, this story ended on a happy note like a Nollywood film. It was nothing short of a miracle. The sole occupant of that vehicle was brought out of the lagoon alive. But he was not rescued by the Nigerian Navy or the Nigeria Police Force; neither was he rescued by the National Emergency Management Agency or Lagos State Emergency Management Agency or any agency of Lagos State. Police Arrest Redeemers University Student Over Death Of Suspected Gay Banker

Homicide detectives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department, Panti, Yaba, have arrested an undergraduate of the Redeemers University, Ogun State, in connection with the brutal murder of a suspected gay banker, Adindu Ohamara. According to sources, the banker was on April 9, found in a pool of his blood in his room, having been stabbed severally by the suspect. Six persons were thereafter arrested in connection with the crime by detectives from the Homicide Unit of the State Criminal Investigations Department ,SCID,in Panti, Lagos State. Some of the persons picked-up by the Police included, a sister of the deceased, Flora who regained her freedom on Wednesday.
