  The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) would in the nearest future be able impose stiffer punishment on promoters of Ponzi schemes and other unregistered investment schemes, if changes to its laws are passed by the National Assembly. Under the proposed law, ‘A bill to repeal the Investment and Securities Act 2007 and to enact the Investments and Securities Act, 2021’ which passed the second reading at the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday, SEC will be empowered to address the challenges of Ponzi schemes.

  The Federal and Lagos State governments yesterday warned organisers of #OccupyLekki protests to desist from their action slated for tomorrow or face their wrath.                                                   Aside from both governments, Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, also advised the protest organisers to have a rethink but the organisers insisted that they would not be intimidated into backing down. The organisers of the protest had said earlier in the week that it was meant to counter the pronouncement of Lagos State Panel on #EndSARS protest which gave Lekki Concession Company, operators of Lekki Toll Gate, the all-clear to restart operations. The Lagos division of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi has granted a N50 million bail bond to former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose. Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, (Source: Twitter/@OlayinkaLere) Fayose is facing an 11-count charge bothering on receiving money illegally to fund his 2014 governorship campaign, among other allegations of benefitting from proceeds of money laundering. When he was first arraigned before the court on Monday, October 22, 2018, the outspoken former governor  pleaded not guilty to all the charges  and pressed for bail. During his second appearance before the court on Wednesday, October 25, the presiding judge,  Justice   Mojisola Olatoregun , granted him bail in the sum of N50 million with two sureties who have landed properties in Lagos and must possess three years tax clearance in the state. Nnamdi Kanu The British government has informed the Federal Government of plans to issue travel document to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. A top government official disclosed this to reporters on the condition of anonymity on Tuesday. Kanu is a dual citizen of Nigeria and Britain. The source said in informing the Federal Government of their intention, the British authorities made it clear that they have the best intentions towards Nigeria. “The British authorities have briefed the Nigerian government about the temporary travel documents they are about to issue to Nnamdi Kanu, who holds a Nigeria-UK dual citizenship. “It shows that they have the best intentions towards the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the source said. Arsenal have announced that they will take on Bayern Munich in a friendly match this July in China. The Gunners will play the Bundesliga champions in Shanghai on July 19, three days before they tackle Chelsea at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing. Arsene Wenger’s side were recently dumped out of the Champions League by Bayern on a 10-2 aggregate. Nevertheless, Arsenal chief executive, Ivan Gazidis is looking forward to the rematch. “It will be very special for our Chinese fans to see a game of this stature,” he told the club’s official website. “We have a fantastic following in China and the two games we are playing there this summer will be an exciting part of our build up for the new season.” Kick-off time for the matches has not been confirmed.

So at first we were skeptical about this story of the alleged “7 year old” kid who was lynched to death after he allegedly stole garri. After careful investigations, we have come to the conclusion that he wasn’t actually a seven year old boy who stole garri but rather he was a man in his twenties who was nabbed by angry residents who took law into their own hands and had jungle justice on him.
